Linda:
I think in this case from what I have read the city law allows distribution of religious materials. What these two brothers were arrested for was trespassing. It was a botched attempt to silence them.
As far as each cities law is concerned it would be good to check into that first, but we must realize we have a First Amendment right, which is being taken away.
They have an update from July 21st that you can read here:
http://web.me.com/jboydfpgm/FPGM_2008_Travel_Blog/FPGM/Entries/2008/7/21_Dangerous_Statements_Out_of_Hickory.html

I'd post it here but it's fairly long. this is happening all over the country. I've seen video of Muslims burning our flag on the streets of New York and not one person said anything, but if you mention Jesus It becomes a Hate Crime. It's really getting worse by the minute!

Do you need a vendor license to pass out pamphlets like anyone who wanted to set up shop in the middle of the street would have to do?? If yes then as Christians we need to obey the laws of each state I know certain areas are with out and other are not ok. Could this have been the confusion or issue more than the content? I don't know the laws in that state or area I don't know how the constitution of freedom of speach intergrates with these laws. Can pamphlets be considered solicitation?

If it were a group of Muslims on the street handing out literature about their faith they would have never been touched. No one wants to ruffle the feathers of the Muslims.

The fourth horse mentioned in the book of Revelation is the "pale" horse. When searching the Greek word for "pale," you find the following:

G5515
???????
chlo?ros
khlo-ros'
From the same as G5514; greenish, that is, verdant, dun-colored: - green, pale.

I believe that this represents the nation of Islam and the Muslim community. With the group of 57 in the United Nations trying to push their agenda, they are attempting to dictate the religion of the world. The Bible tells us that this day would come.

We must all repent of all things contrary to the Word and Will of God and press into His presence more than ever before. These unconstitutional actions are but the tip of the iceberg.

Hi Christian Mother:
Thanks for the comment and I too like you want my child protected from bullying. I have four children, two grandchildren and one on the way.
To address the first part of your comment, this bill would do exactly that, protect your child or any child regardless of orientation from bullying the way it was first written.

Now let's just say for example: My child is a homosexual, yours is not, He or She has a few words with your child because he or she, Let's say jumped in front of the line during lunch. Your child said something and one thing lead to another and some punches were thrown.
Both wind up in the principals office. My child ends up with detention, your child is expelled for the rest of the year, and possible charges from the DA due to a "Hate Crimes Law" because my child was "Homosexually Oriented". Do you see where I'm going with this.
It has already happened in a few states. I know of one college kid who lost his scholarship because a Homosexual called him a name and one thing lead to another. He's facing a Felony instead of a lower charge due to the fact the other guy was a homosexual.
#2:
There is an article here in the blog from Berit Kjos about "Hate Crime Laws" that discusses Matthew Sheppard. Even though what happened to him was horrendous and the perpetrators should be punished to the full extent. There is one we didn't get to hear that much from;

<blockquote>"Matthew Shepard? Few Americans could miss the shocking details of this young homosexual’s horrible death in 1998. The media published that story 3007 times — 45 times in the New York Times alone. It made Matthew a martyr for the cause of gay rights, hate-crimes legislation, and anti-Christian sentiment.”[7]

Did you read about Jesse Dirkhising’s torture and murder at the hands of two homosexual lovers eleven months later? Probably not. The thirteen-year-old boy was drugged, strapped down, sodomized, tortured, and killed by two adults living in an apartment that ‘reeked of excrement and was littered with drug paraphernalia.’[7] Like Matthew’s murder, it was a horrible crime — almost unfit to print. But that’s not why most newspapers across the country refused to tell the story. The real reason? It didn’t fit their agenda! It wasn’t politically correct!"
</blockquote>

Here is a link to the article here: http://achristianvoice.com/2008/05/why-hate-crime-laws-would-ban-biblical-christianity/

I greatly appreciate your comment and look forward to discussing it further.

David:
I read earlier this morning that they went back on the 4th and had no problems. They also got to pass out over 1000 tracks! I think with all the emails and phone calls the city received they are thinking twice now before jumping.
I really hate that this has to happen. I can remember street preachers on the corners and around stores here at home years ago. We still have a few and one of the older ones was put in jail here for being asked to move off the streets and he refused. The charges were dropped and he's still on the corner!
I hope all goes well with these guys.
May the Lord Bless you and yours!

Tim,

I have seen the videos and again no mention of why they were asked to leave. Also, if the policeman was asked if he was willing to take responsibility for any lawsuits that would be brought forth by the arrest and he said yes, so the city needs to talk to him and not complain about Jessie and Matthew not talking to them to work out a solution. They are just exercising their right to have an attorney present, or maybe the police and the city want to infringe on that right too.

Have a blessed day!!!

I totally agree David! The only thing I can see that tells the story is from their own web site by watching the two videos. The sad thing is that it's happening all over the country! Take a look at http://www.repentamerica.com This guy has been charged and convicted by preaching at the liberty bell in PA.
There are many stories and it's happening now. We need to make a stand and make it quick.
I just got a story from the ACLJ that the UN is working with the Muslims to make it an International crime to speak against them and to preach Christianity anywhere.
It's a sad time and one of the greatest times to pray!
thanks for your input!

What I find so intresting is the fact that not one of the articals I have read to this point tells me why they were asked to leave. What was the basis of the police decision to ask them to leave??? If it was because they were causing a disturbance shouldn't they have been arrested for disturbing the peace or disorderly conduct, or if someone complained they bothered them wouldn't it be harrasment??? There seems to be too many things that haven't been made known. I cannot see how handing someone a tract and asking them if the are saved or telling them hw they can be saved is a problem. I have been handed plenty of literature and asked questions by politicans in my day so will that be allowed in downtown Hickory from now on. Believe me, if I am at any downtown event in Hickory and the politican from the party that I oppose hands me anything or asks me anything I am going to tell the police so that they can have them removed. Goose and gander folks, if it's good for one it will have to be good for the other. I fear that Hickory may have opened a can of worms without a having a hook to hang them on. Until I get more facts than I have been given the only conclusion I can draw is that the First Amendment rights of these men were violated.
